Gluten Free Asian Sauce Recipe for Beef

You are going to love this gluten free Asian sauce recipe! We usually make this to eat with beef but you can certainly use it with chicken or pork if that’s what you have on hand. So many of the Asian sauces in the grocery store contain gluten because most soy sauces contain gluten. Thankfully, you can create your own gluten-free recipe at home very easily.

Gluten Free Asian Sauce Recipe

Sweet and sour sauce is a family favorite gluten free Asian sauce recipe. It’s very inexpensive to make and if you run out of any of these ingredients, I’ve shared a few substitutions at the end of the post that you can try. If you’re wondering what type of beef to use, we chose a Certified Angus Beef® Brand sirloin steak and then cut it into strips. Only the best cuts of choice and prime make the cut because only the best can be called the Certified Angus Beef® brand. In Vermont, you can find it at Price Chopper.

This honestly costs just a few pennies to make. The key to keeping this sauce gluten free is to buy gluten-free soy sauce. Gluten-free soy sauce is sometimes called Tamari sauce. Most soy sauces contain gluten because soy sauce is made from fermented wheat. Wheat, of course, contains gluten. When shopping for soy sauce, look for a bottle that is clearly labeled gluten-free.  We buy this brand.

Now, if you happen to be out of pineapple juice, you can substitute orange juice for almost the same taste. If you’re out of ketchup, you can try this recipe with Thousand Island dressing. It’s a slightly different taste but still very good. If you’re trying to cut down on white sugar, you can use brown sugar or even honey in this recipe. If you’re trying to go corn free, you can use arrowroot to thicken this gluten free Asian sauce. Or, you can buy a non-GMO cornstarch if you’re worried about GMOs.

You can use this with all of your favorite gluten free Asian appetizers. We love it on Teriyaki beef, chicken wings, and on mini meatballs we make without breadcrumbs. Sometimes, we make it with my frugal fried rice recipe.
